Is your harddrive out of space because of duplicate files?. Yes, although harddrive price now is getting cheaper with larger capacity, it’s not wise to save many file duplicates in our harddrives. But how can we know if we got many file duplicates?.

Window user, you can use search facility from windows. But this program is not too good, because of limited search option. I personally prefer Tune Up Utilities 2008 to do this task. But that’s paid version software. Today, I will present you 6 free software which you can use to find out which files duplicated?

1. Fast Duplicate File Finder

As stated from it’s name, this program able to find duplicate files from any folders, drives or networks. Another features are:

- Fast search using binary search algorithm
- Preview for image, video, audio, text or binary files availables
- Automark features, to mark and choose duplicate files automatically
- File can be erased or moved to another folders / places

Fast Duplicate File Finder can’t search for specific file extension, but from the result window, we can choose which files we want to keep or remove.

2. DoubleKiller

DoubleKiller is Portable application, don’t need to install it if you want to run. With relatively smaller size, about 392 KB and simple windows, this software completed with many features :

- Scan Directory, Drive, or even network files connected.
- Able to find specific files for examples *.mp3, *.dll, *.exe etc.
- Able to combine many criterias such as filename, size, date and contents.
- Able to Erase or move file chosen

This program should run in any windows version, because it’s portable. If you want to choose a file automatically, you can use menu to choose first or duplicates.

3. Easy Duplicate Finder

Similar to the previous program, Easy Duplicate Finder has similar features described in 2 programs above. Scanning folder or drive, scan with a certain criteria (file extension), file system protection etc.

Right click in file result windows will choose specific files according to file dates. It has 2 version, portable and installed.

4. Duplicate File Finder 3.5

This program is similar with the above program. Comes with simple interface, Duplicate File Finder 3.5 able to search faster because implementation of multithreading techniques used and easy report.

compared with the other program, this program is smallest in size, only  112 KB, with a portable exe file.

5. Duplicate Cleaner

With this program, we can look for duplicate files based on content, name, size or date. another features available :

- File filter (search for specific filetype)
- Image Preview
- Selection Assistant
- Music Search, to search audio type file only ( MP3, WMA, OGG, APE, FLAC) based on many criteria such as album, year, genre, artists etc.

to protect windows file to be searched, option to exclude this file available in menu section. Compared with programs described above, this is the biggest program, but with fastest scanner rate.

6. DirComp

Although this is old version program which is discontinued, this is unique one. Size is only 42 KB. Developed in delphi with KOL component.
